Signs of the Believers

by Hope Church on Mar.19, 2009, under Christian Living, Evangelism

Mark 16:15-18  And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.  He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.  And these signs will follow these who believe:  In My name they will cast out demons;  they will speak with new tongues;  they will take up serpents;  and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick and they will recover.

Christ left us with the Promise of Power through Him and the Holy Spirit.  He also left us with the command to evangelize!

The signs accompany evangelism as much as they cover personal edification, or building up.  Christ promised us power to do great things but notice that there was no time frame given for these works.

Yes, these gifts and signs are still in action today!  We are still speaking with new tongues, healing, and making our way through situations we never imagined possible!

With Christ and the Power of the Spirit all things are possible!  We must learn to yield to this power and embrace it, not run away from it.

How much do we miss because we don’t let the Holy Spirit fulfill the promise Christ left us with?  We need to trust that He is real and knows exactly what He is doing, even if at times it feels weird or is out of our comfort zones.

When we open up to the power of the Spirit, we will experience Christ on a whole new level.  Let’s not miss out on this!

Giving to Jesus

by Hope Church on Mar.15, 2009, under Christian Living

Mark 14:3b-6  A woman came having an alabaster flask of costly oil of spikenerd.  Then she broke the flask and poured it on His head.  But there were some who were indignant among themselves, and said, “Why was this fragrant oil wasted?  For it might have been sold for more than 300 denarii and given to the poor.”  And they criticized her sharply.  But Jesus said to them, “Let her alone.  Why do you trouble her?  She has done a good work for me.”

The woman recognized the need to honor Christ and give Him the best that we have.  300 denarii was almost an entire years wages and it was gone only in a matter of seconds because she realized that service to Christ was worth more than any earthly possession.

What can you give up for Christ?  What are you holding back because it is too valuable?  What can you give to honor Him?

We need to go above and beyond tithes and offerings and completely sell out our lives to the service and glory of the King.

Compelled to Preach the Gospel

by Hope Church on Mar.14, 2009, under Christian Living, Evangelism

It can’t be explained to those who haven’t experienced it, but as believers we shouldn’t be able to contain ourselves from speaking about the message of Christ as Savior.

There are not multiple ways to Heaven, only one, and that is through Christ. He loved us so much to die for us, then showed His power through coming out of the Grave to reign as the eternal king! What a story!

It is our duty, and should be our desire to spread this story, no matter what the cost!
